James Gillow BA (Hons), MSc

Building Surveyor

James is a MSc Building Surveying graduate, achieving a Distinction from Northumbria University. He has over 3 years of experience working as a Building Surveyor for Merit Estates, carrying out RICS HomeBuyer and Building Surveys, as well as project managing design and build developments for key clients .

James achieved a Bachelors of Arts (BA Hons) in Business Management at Leeds Beckett University in 2017 and worked a number of years post-degree in Leeds City Centre. Having always had a passion for the built environment, he decided to return to university in 2021 to carry out a Masters in Building Surveying at Northumbria University.

Alongside his part-time degree, he worked as an Assistant Surveyor for Merit Estates, aiding Managing Director, Will Parker with the delivery of estate management services, with a focus on the built environment. During this time, he assisted on RICS Level 2 and Level 3 Residential Surveys and project managed several property refurbishments, extensions and new-build developments.

Since achieving a Masters with distinction from Northumbria University, James has assumed a full-time role as a Building Surveyor. He has a particular interest in heritage property and has developed a skill set in AutoCAD building design, to assist with Planning Applications and Listed Building Consents.

He’s also a keen drone pilot and can carry out thorough inspections of chimneys and roof coverings on his surveys!
