James Gillow MSc AssocRICS

Building Surveyor

James is an RICS Accredited Building Surveyor with over five years’ professional experience in residential property. He is also CIOB Registered in Building Conservation (Project Manager – Practitioner).

He works at Merit Estates delivering RICS Level 3 Building Surveys, alongside project managing design-and-build developments and coordinating repair and maintenance schedules for key clients.

James holds an MSc in Building Surveying from Northumbria University, achieved with Distinction, and a BA (Hons) in Business Management from Leeds Beckett University.

During his MSc, James worked as an Assistant Surveyor at Merit Estates, supporting Managing Director Will Parker in the delivery of estate management services, before progressing into a full-time Building Surveyor role. He has since successfully achieved AssocRICS status and continues to develop his professional expertise, particularly within the field of building conservation and heritage property.

James has a strong professional interest in historic and listed buildings, supported by his CIOB registration in Building Conservation. He regularly undertakes surveys and project work involving traditional construction methods and has developed AutoCAD design skills to support Planning Applications and Listed Building Consents.

He is also a keen drone pilot! Enabling detailed and safe inspections of chimneys and roof coverings as part of his surveying services.
